Good Bops & Buys

Last weekend was full of incredibly fab, curated pop-ups. First stop was Not A Normal Market’s new residency in Union Square-a rainbow of hand-dyed vintage silk dresses, Pucci scarves reconstructed into summery tops, rare vintage designer bags & so much more. They’re back this weekend and next with a fresh lineup of vendors to explore.

I also ended up having very good luck at Le Pop Up by Merci C’est Vintage. Definitely follow them to keep up with future pop-ups. I snagged the most insane cotton velvet, silk-lined jacket by Le Tre Sarte, a Rome-based woman-owned bespoke label. Taking this one with me to the grave.

A Meal to Remember

Finally made it over to La Cantine in Bushwick and omg…I wish I had gone sooner and lived slightly closer because I’d be here multiple times a week if I could. It was one of those meals where the how good the food is becomes the majority of the conversation. We started with farmer’s market crudité with passionfruit beet labneh & a plate of mimolette drizzled with fragrant honey, followed by a thousand-layer potato topped with a bounty of snappy green veg. Then came the fried chicken au poivre (heavenly & inspired!!)

But the pièce de résistance-as seems to often be the case at La Cantine-was the passionfruit coconut tiramisu. A weekly special that instantly entered my top 3 desserts of all time.

New & Noteworthy

Lulu and Georgia (my current home décor brand crush) just launched a ballet-inspired edit titled “There’s an Art to It,” centered around the idea that crafting a home is much like dance — a balance of form, beauty, craftsmanship & movement. Accompanying the launch is a beautifully choreographed campaign film featuring real ballet dancers, which felt especially refreshing in a world increasingly overrun by AI-generated visuals.

And honestly, beyond the obvious subtle nod toward a certain A-listers tasteless comment, it also taps into something I’ve been feeling more & more while online shopping lately — particularly in the furniture and décor space — where it’s becoming genuinely difficult to tell what’s real and what’s simply an AI mock-up.

McDonald’s collabed with Susan Alexandra on a line of beaded drink holders to celebrate their new Refreshers lineup and you guys… when I got the invite to this launch event I was floored.You know I love Susan Alexandra, specifically the beaded bags, but what you may not know is that a CRISP McDonald’s Diet Coke is also my daily afternoon treat of choice. 5. Le Dive’s new West Village location has seemingly popped up overnight and will be opening any minute. Jury’s out on whether this new spot will have the same kind of charm as the OG. 6. Michael McGregor’s show Lunch is now open at the new Dan Yoshii Gallery location. McGregor is widely known for his whimsically illustrated room service illustrations on hotel stationary. 54 Henry St. April 30–June 12.

And just to be clear - this is not quiet luxury or the CBK-ification of your closet..god no. I love color, sparkles, a logo here and there, all of it. But I’ve found I can actually have more fun with those pieces when my bases are dialed.

I rely on my hero pieces to do most of the talking, but my bases are no less considered. I’d argue that a white tee is never just a white tee, a sock is never just a socks - each one is its own vibe, carefully curated so that the end result feels uncomplicated and effortless. Basics are not one size fits all by any means but these are the ones I come back to-the spring/summer basics that ground everything else and make the whole look feel like me

Plain Jane is a new American-made, woman-owned, size-inclusive brand doing one thing to perfection: the white tee. 100% Supima cotton, three sleeve lengths-cap, the shortie aptly called the “Goldilocks”, and a slightly longer one, “the short”. I love how dialed-in they are on details. Very excited to try.

2. CouCou Intimates blends dainty details with distinctly feminine silhouettes in 100% organic cotton. The Rina long sleeve (boat neck, bell sleeves) is #1 on my wishlist-perpetually sold out, which tracks now that I know Sabrina wore it. I check my email notifs for restocks multiple times daily. Their balconettes are perfection, tees feel perfectly lived-in from first wear, and honestly everything makes my cut.

3. Flore Flore does classic cotton staples in neutrals and saturated shades, all made in Portugal at a mother-daughter-run factory. The Steffi tee is a great alternative to CouCou’s Rina if you want a boat neck without the bell. Also love the Diana polo for layering and Car tee for a slimmer fit with a thicker collar.

4. Leset Margo tees are a bit more $$ for a boxy white tee, but I love them deeply and they’re probably my most worn. I’m eyeing the long sleeve next. The pointelle set is my travel uniform- think of it as more polished pajamas. I baby it (delicate cycle, air dry, quick tumble), but nothing about me is low maintenance, so why would my basics be?

5. Still Here is the one denim brand I’ll always splurge on, but their basics are just as good-very stripped-back, cool-girl capsule. The red tee is everything (jeans, Ray-Bans, a Speedy…done), as is the snap tank with its signature hardware. I saw someone in the full pink set and fear I’ve been influenced. I already have the jeans so I’m halfway there.

6. Maria La Rosa makes my favorite colorful cotton socks. Not for sneakers (that’s Bombas), but perfect with loafers. Thin, beautifully made, and somehow survive how hardwearing I am on my socks. Worth every penny. Need every color.

7. Agnès B is the OG French cool-girl basics brand-the classic snap-button cardigan sits between a cardigan and a light jacket. The quality speaks for itself (as does the price), but there are great secondhand ones I’ve linked here.

8. Renggli, Morgan Stewart’s brand, actually feels distinct in an oversaturated influencer backed brand space-chic, elevated basics with feminine (not girly) cuts. The silk-cashmere V-neck sweater is having a moment for a reason it’s a sexy sweater, which is not easy. Immediately added to cart. And with the weather in NYC, at this rate we’ll be wearing sweaters to the bar in July.

9. And finally, the J.Crew perfect cashmere sweater-because it is. I have it in multiple colors and sizes (no self-control), because sizing shifts it from fitted to relaxed and cozier. PSA they’re on sale rn. Yes it’s almost May, but this can also be a throw-over-your-shoulders-at-60-degrees situation. Ending here because I’ve been told I need to stop wearing cashmere to every event but like I said, call me repetitive, but I love my things to death.

I’ve always preferred being horizontal. Ideally under a cozy blanket. So this shift for me—journey, if we’re feeling a little sappy, has been kind of huge.

I grew up dancing, which kept me in amazing physical shape and… less than amazing mental shape. I know many former dancers can relate. For years, I avoided anything that felt hard or put me in front of a mirror. The idea of group workout classes, let alone ballet again, would’ve sent me into a full spiral.

During the pandemic, I tried doing Move with Nicole on YouTube, but here’s the thing about me-and maybe it’s flashbacks to being called out for phoning it in at the barre—if there aren’t eyes on me, I will bow out.

The voice in my head that says you can’t do it, you can’t push harder is loud. Like, really loud. And I’ve learned that sometimes I need someone external to override that voice and say, actually, yes you can.

And honestly, even though NYC workout classes are very much a get in, get out, don’t make eye contact situation, there’s something about being in a room where everyone is pushing themselves that makes me feel stronger mentally. Even if physically I am quite literally falling from a standing position into the springs on the reformer—never forget.

My second reformer class ever at New York Pilates, I was heaving next to a seven-month-pregnant woman who was, quite frankly, training for war. Ready for battle. And childbirth is basically the same thing anyway.

Now, a few months in, I go to Pilates 3–4 times a week and take an adult ballet class once a week which has been unexpectedly healing. It’s also nice to know I still have it and that muscle memory is real.

Am I suddenly a toned, lean goddess? No. And honestly, I love fries far too much to expect that to happen quickly-or maybe ever. But I feel stronger. Physically, yes-I could maybe throw a punch if needed. Or more realistically, a kick, since we’re talking ballet and Pilates.

But more importantly, mentally. I’ve proven to myself that I can be consistent at something that doesn’t always feel good in the moment-but over time makes me feel so much better.

And while consistency has been the real game changer, having pieces I genuinely love and places that make me feel comfortable doesn’t hurt, so here’s everywhere/everything that makes my workouts actually enjoyable!🩰

A real beginner’s go-to’s

My favorite NYC studios if you’re just starting. Essentially where to go if Solidcore is still a very far out goal.

Soho Pilates-A newer studio in the heart of SoHo that’s drenched in matcha green & oh so cute. They host a lot of special classes that are perfect to go to with friends. I did a mat & matcha class which was delightfully so hard, followed by a lovely iced strawberry matcha. Truly an ideal morning. On Class Pass

BK Pilates-My reformer class of choice. I frequent the Chelsea & Flatiron locations. The studios are bright, everything is so clean, & I tend to work my schedule around my favorite instructors. Some classes are slower and more of a gentle stretch which can be perfect if I need a reset, but others are higher energy and have me fully shaking. On Class Pass

Ballet & Body-My go-to for adult ballet classes. I grew up dancing & still take their beginner level classes. You should know the basics going in as it’s not true entry level, but the teachers are so lovely & hands-on so they really guide you through. On Class Pass

Humming Puppy-The most stunning yoga studio. I love all of their flows & daily hum classes, and there’s complimentary tea after which feels so luxurious & grounding. A full little ritual moment. On Class Pass

Serotonin Club-If you’re looking for a focused, high-intensity 45 min mat sculpt, this is a good one. Newer studio with super targeted classes like abs & arms or glutes only. Small class sizes & all Bala equipment. On Class Pass

New York Pilates-This was my second reformer class ever & it completely knocked me out in terms of pace & difficulty. Regular Pilates girls will say it’s not that hard, but as a beginner I would start at BK or a smaller studio. A few months in and I’m still working up the endurance to go back & keep up under those purple lights. The OG Pilates princess™ spot in the city. Not on Class Pass

1. Fraise makes my favorite grip socks ever. The grip is better than anything I’ve found on Amazon, imo, & the colors and patterns are so cute.

2. Flat ballet shoes are a must for my ballet classes. My favorites are Bloch, Capezio, & Sansha.

3. LMNT is my electrolyte brand of choice. I always have one in my bag. I’m notoriously bad at drinking water - I much prefer a steady flow of coffee & Diet Coke - so these genuinely help remind me to hydrate and keep the dehydration headaches at bay. I physically cannot be out in the heat without one on hand.

Kicking off our design treasure hunt with Quarters- a well-known design showroom, that still somehow feels like rediscovering a hidden gem each time I return.

A dimly lit, warm wood–wrapped loft where every room is entirely shoppable. The moody, deep tones of low, modern furniture contrast with playful lighting by Sophie Lou Jacobsen in collaboration with In Common With- think lavender glass mushroom lamps and chandeliers that feel like daffodils sprouting from the ceiling.

It’s your last chance to check out BDDW, the longtime auction house and showroom closing at the end of April. One of my tippy top favorite stores in the city! But just a quick 7-min walk from Bomi is something newer, more exciting, and undeniably design-forward: Manuela.

Part contemporary art gallery, part restaurant, Manuela is a full sensory experience. Order the biscuits with Steens butter and any of their rotating, vibrant veggie-forward dishes. Above the bar, illuminated neon mushrooms cascade overhead, while a Louise Bourgeois spider looms on the wall. I‘ve been a bag gal since as long as I can remember. Maybe it’s because I tend to gravitate toward simplicity in my outfits but when my bag feels off, my mood is deeply affected. I no longer feel like my best, bubbliest version of myself. I even went so far as to write an entire newsletter about how a combination of SSRIs and conversation-starting bags have helped me deal with my anxiety (yes, it is that deep).

And though I’ll never say that my collection is complete (it never is), I will say I’ve noticed a sharp shift in where my collector’s attention is. Newsflash: it’s not on any of the Houses (the Hermèses, LVMHs, Kerings, & Chanels). A couple years ago, my consumption of luxury bag YouTube videos probably outnumbered my actual TV screen time. I was always in the know - what was new, what was next - deep in forums, so in tune with the market that I snagged my 2005 cherry Murakami Speedy for a (relative) steal when my bag spidey senses told me a rerelease was imminent.

Now? I couldn’t even tell you the proper name of a newer designer bag released in the past year. Everything has kind of morphed together, and I’m bored. Dare I say, when it comes to designer, I’m shifting to the dark side (shoes).

This isn’t to say there aren’t capital D Designer bags that have caught my attention - there are - but they’re older, and they’re all on TRR or Fashionphile. Proof of delayed gratification, I guess.

When it comes to new, these days I’m far more interested in finding, discovering, adding to cart, and obsessing over smaller, contemporary brands - all under 1k, many of them designed by one-woman shows. As much as I love my vintage flap or a good canvas monogram, it’s these special, sparkly, niche, independently designed bags that get the oohs & ahhs. The real conversation starters. The ones I’m wishlist-ing for spring & summer.

Mélisse New York- a relatively new passion project turned viral video turned full-on small business - known for small-batch, sculptural, fringed takes on the classic Japanese knot bag. But what’s cooler than the bags themselves? The woman behind them.

Mélisse - the designer, head of social & influencer at Diane von Furstenberg by day, bag designer by night, and fashion content creator somewhere in between.

Made from deadstock fabric, Mélisse NY bags are quickly becoming NYC’s cool girl ba(d)g(e) of honor. Securing one from a limited drop is no small feat. I’m already scheming how to slyly duck out of a Saturday workout class to press purchase - before slipping back in like nothing happened. They say shopping is cardio… and honestly, I’m willing to leave my actual cardio behind to shop.

Call It By Your Name-celebrating its 6th birthday with a sitewide sale - bless. Consider this your sign to finally snag one of their now-iconic, French girl beloved bandana bags.

The bucket bag is my go-to for Pilates, and I’m already planning to pick up a mini tote when I’m in Paris next month.

They’ve also recently expanded into leather goods lined with their signature bandana print (obsessed). The fringe is too good, and this green? Made for park picnics and aimless, chic shop perusing.

Liffner - a Scandi brand delivering quietly understated, sculptural bags - is my current fixation. Defined by their signature push-lock closure (inspired by a mandala), every piece feels intentional, polished, and highly collectible.

This perfectly pink poodle purse is everything I’ve ever wanted. I’ve affectionately named her Cleo - an ode to Clifford’s purple poodle friend. If my 6-year-old self could see me now, she’d be both deeply impressed and wildly jealous.

Having called Chelsea home for 6+ years, I’ve had a front-row seat to the Hotel Chelsea’s long-awaited transformation & even longer renovation lol. When this iconic, gothic institution—rich with stories of parties, celebrity, & sparkling New York lore—finally reopened, it felt like a neighborhood-wide celebration. Now open to both guests & locals, the hotel features over 150 rooms/suites, a bar, three restaurants (including a newer basement sushi spot), & of course, the spa.

Booking!

The spa’s treatment menu runs the gamut—from hot stone massages & bespoke facials to psychic readings, & even a “Witching Hour” experience described as a “sacred service” complete with “a bespoke blend of intuitive divinations”—clearly a nod to the hotel’s haunted past.

I opted for the far more mainstream “Magic Hour facial” which gave me a 60 min personalized facial performed by one of their master estheticians. My esthetician was named Lena & I truly cannot recommend her enough!

The Experience!

I arrived at the Spa around 45 min pre treatment, & was immediately taken by the design details. The entire hotel Chelsea revamp is beautiful & pays homage to the hotel’s era & original bones which tend to lean more dark & gothic naturally, but entering the spa, is like a portal into another world, a softly lit cozy pink & brown one I’d much rather always live in.

After check in, & a quick gift shop peruse, more on this later, I was given an amenity tour by a lovely member of the staff. It made me feel at home & also served as a great reminder that this is not an in-&-out med spa type facial like I’ve had in the past. This was indulgent & truly a luxury experience.

Pre-treatment, the experience is entirely yours to romanticize and shape. Your locker awaits with a personalized Hotel Chelsea robe & slippers for you to change into & from there you’re free to drift through your own self-care rhythm before your appointment time.

The changing area is decadent, stocked with products to play with (all available in the gift shop ofc), alongside a shower & a steam room tiled floor-to-ceiling in the most delicious shade of pink. There’s also a lounging room with cozy couches, spa water, snacks, & the most magnificent brick fireplace you’ll inevitably wish you could somehow excavate from the building & bring home with you.

Then of course there’s-in my opinion-the pièce de résistance-a small but stunning cedar wood-burning sauna that smells heavenly.

When it came time for my facial with Lena, I was immediately struck by how the 60 minutes felt incredibly drawn out in the best way-slow, indulgent, luxurious. It began with a salt foot bath & then moved into the actual facial, which was performed with so much care & intention.

In past facials, I’m usually asked what products I use, scolded for not using “the right ones”, & then have the spa’s entire product line shoved down my throat with a casual “they’ll be waiting for you at the desk.” Ma’am, I did not want this $300 serum to begin with, please.

This was not that. The spa works with a range of clean beauty brands, so the approach felt really open- no one pushing a single line in the name of commission, no pressure to buy anything. And ironically, I ended up loving a few of the products so much that I bought them anyway. A first for me, but proof that discovery (& not being aggressively sold to) is actually the best convincer.

After my treatment was over & I was in a self care haze, I sipped spa water & read my Kindle by the fireplace before changing into my street clothes (bregudgingly) & heading to an early dinner meeting I really wish I hadn’t committed to. I come back to this point in my do’s & don’ts below! If anything at all, I would recommend popping down to the Lobby Bar after for tea or a Martini (depending on what kind of self care you need that day) & soak up a bit more of what the hotel has to offer.

I left feeling refreshed, relaxed but also deeply inspired by the level of intention in the hospitality, services, & design details. I’m already counting down the days until my next Hotel Chelsea day-cation in a few weeks!

Do’s & Don’ts

Because what’s relaxation without rules?!

Do: Get there early & stay post-treatment! You’ll want to maximize robe time by the fireplace & use the steam room & sauna. I think you technically have 30 min pre & 30 min post treatment to use the amenities but if you’re nice, quiet, & they aren’t too busy, you may be able to finagle a bit longer like I did.

Don’t: Over-schedule your day or plan on doing much after your time at the spa. I rec. blocking off at least half a day for the actual experience (robe-time maxing + treatment) then maybe the rest of the day to continue relaxing & recharging. You’re paying for a reset, why rush it?

Do: Bring something to read! You can be on your phone but I really enjoyed disconnecting & having my Kindle there to help me unwind & be present as much as possible for me, a self proclaimed IPad kid.

Don’t: Use the sauna or steam room after getting a facial! All the magical potions they just doused you in will melt right off! Use those amenities pre-treatment

Do: Peruse the gift shop! I mean it’s impossible to miss because it’s literally right in the entry but even if you’re not keen on adding more to your bill, just check it out-there are so many interesting brand/product discoveries to be had & saved for future wishlist making

That being said, I’ve also always known, pretty deeply, that marriage isn’t for me. A long-term partnership? Sure, maybe someday. But a wedding - the aisle, the people, the papers of it all - is just not something I’ve ever envisioned for myself or my future.

I’m the first to say never say never, you don’t know until it hits you in the face, yada yada. And sure, maybe you’re right. But for 28 years now, that quiet sense of conviction hasn’t really changed. And that’s okay.

I have friends - one best friend in particular - who is deep in wedding planning mode right now, & I’m eating it all up in all the ways only someone who doesn’t have the burden of planning & budgeting can. I love fanfare, I love a party, & most importantly I love her. I cannot wait to celebrate her & her fiancé during such a special milestone moment.

That said, I can’t help but feel a little bit like Carrie Bradshaw in that deliciously petty storyline involving a stolen pair of Manolos - because, in the most vain & socially unacceptable way, the idea of registering for things you want as a single adult sounds incredibly appealing.

On one hand, the registry scanner from rom-coms has always fascinated me - is that even still a thing, or has it been retired in favor of a quick tap on a screen? On the other hand, I know I’d absolutely kill a registry. My guests would be fully assured that everything they were getting me would be appreciated and well-loved for years to come - especially because it would quite literally just be for me, picked out by me, with only my taste in mind.

No compromising, no blending aesthetics, no de-feminizing my style - just things I love deeply, would rather not buy for myself, & would cherish for years.

Trying: Finally tried & waited in line for Tuckshop, the new Aussie coffee & grilled cheese spot in the WV. Ordered the Mont Blanc latte + a ham & cheese toastie - yes, there was a proper cheese pull. Loved the design of the space, but at $30+ w/ tip it’s definitely a splurge is worth repeating.

Still, I’m all for coffee shops leaning into real, substantial snacks - give me a warm cappuccino & pan con tomate on a chilly day, à la Cortado in Paris .

1. Rowing Blazers Cashmere Après Skis Cable Knit Sweater-Skiing terrifies me but I live for the après - the style, the leisure, the looks. Honestly, living in NYC right now feels spiritually adjacent to skiing so it works. I wear a Medium layered over an Intimissimi for extra warmth. Love it with jeans or with Leset pants for a cozy après sans ski moment.

2. Rowing Blazers Sheep Fleece-Lady Di’s iconic sheep sweater in fleece form. I’ve been wearing the long sleeve to Pilates multiple times a week & it’s probably my most complimented piece. A little joy for a frigid, gloomy 8 am class. The long sleeve is sold out so turn on notifs, but they do have the vest which I’m genuinely considering for spring layering.

3. Eadem Lip Balm-Saving my perpetually dry, lizard lips this winter. Love the exfoliating-to-balm situation for when things are extra chapped & I’m on the go.

Kujten patterns are printed vs knitted - nothing wrong with that - but if you needed another GIR price-to-quality justification, that’s one. Also perfect as a plane shoulder wrap. Love, love, LOVE. I have 3 colors already & see no end in sight.

5. Sofie Pavitt Toner Pods-The queen of clear, hydrated skin delivers the perfect instant boost for dry, puffy mornings. These toner pods are 1. Very cute. 2. Live in your freezer & instantly de-puff + soothe wind-chapped skin.

6. Gap Bandana Fringe Cardigan-Gap has outdone themselves with this chocolate brown bandana fringe cardigan. Yes, it’s clearly a nod to Alanui. I own & deeply cherish my Alanui, but there’s room for both. Alanui’s is thick, all cashmere, about 3k - we listen & we don’t judge - & honestly feels more like a car coat than a cardigan. Stunning but overheats me & not ideal for packing. The Gap version is under $200, thinner, has some synthetic fiber but whatever, & you can actually layer a coat over it.

7. Fraise Socks-My Pilates socks just got a major upgrade. Pricier than Amazon but 10x the grip & cushion, plus they’re cute which is always motivating.

8. The Manucurist Nail Oil-Other than my lips, my cuticles are my biggest winter offender. Constantly peeling & irritated. I’ve been loving The Manucurist oil - 6 nourishing oils in one magic potion. They also have a pen for throwing in your bag.

9. Heaven Mayhem Sunglasses-I wear sunglasses no matter what - partly because I have insanely sensitive blue eyes, especially after snow when the sun hits, but also because they feel like armor. Instant confidence boost. These chocolate brown specs from Heaven Mayhem are a chic alternative to my typical tortoise with a wider, shield-like frame that protects my eyes especially well in a flurry.

Specifically the tin-tube kind. But also ones w/ more sculptural packaging-a Chanel egg, a Prada triangle. Something that feels more objet than ointment. Currently using Aesop’s lavender hand cream religiously before bed & love that it can be easily mistaken for a tube of watercolor paint.

Toothpaste

Also in a tin tube. (Yes, this matters.) Mostly Marvis but I find that the flavor speaks volumes about your essence-whitening mint=classic & refined, Jasmine-fun & unexpected, etc.

Toothbrushes & Makeup Brushes

Colorful. Patterned. Tortoise. Pearlescent. Nothing your dentist would ever give you in a post appointment goodie bag. Piave striped Italian toothbrushes are a frequent repurchase as well as Trask for traveling especially.

Cutlery

The tools extend beyond beauty & into the cabinet. She carries taste to the table & e that buttered toast really does taste better when she uses her tiny two toned butter knife.

Hair Brushes & Combs

Sculptural enough to leave out. Equivalent in options - finishes, bristles, silhouettes, & price - to shopping for a car. La Bonne Brosse is superior. After testing & accumulating roughly four of these Birkins of the brush market, I suggest buying the small size - it’s less $$$, has enough surface area to get through your entire head for everyday, & slips easily into your bag on the go. Also, Dries makes a comb that’s deserving of resting on a velvet cushion when not in use. Swoon!

Lighters & Matchbooks

A playful party trick on a night out & a coffee table worthy accessory. Edie Parker’s bejeweled lighters are like jewelry. And Matchbooks collected like souvenirs ofc-bonus points for being free w/ meal purchase or if you’re ballsy enough, just walk into a restaurant w/o a resy & ask.

Bookmarks

As much as I love my Kindle for its practicality, reading IRL - off screen, pages in hand - is timeless cool girl behavior. Dog-eared pages, notes in the margins, a spine with no fresh crackle left.

A bookmark says everything. Leopard w/ a tassel - okay miss fashionista. A tarot card. An old receipt. A sticky note from your mom. A photo strip.

A placeholder that’s also a tiny personality tell.

Lipsticks & Balms

Lipsticks that look like art. Dries are my favorite to give as gift. Each case speaks to a distinct personality & aesthetic & the actual product is so highly pigmented I can’t imagine ever needing a refill but the option is ofc there. Balms in tin tubes or customizable cases. Though she likely also carries Aquafor because at the end of the day, it’s still the best.

Thai

• Pranakhon-Simply the best & criminally underrated. I’m undeniably a basic B on Thai nights & must order pad Thai — which means I’ve tried a lot of pad Thais and have extremely high standards. Theirs is loaded with herbs, peanuts, egg, & a side of chili crunch (which I don’t use but appreciate). Without a doubt the best pad Thai I’ve had.

  Order:
  Pad Thai (chicken or shrimp)
  Green curry with chicken
  Kai Chai — a crispy chive cracker with a chive-filled pancake and dipping sauce

Sushi

• Sendo-Like Sugarfish in its simplicity & smaller menu (no crazy rolls), but better in my opinion — and there’s spicy tuna, so it automatically reigns supreme.

  The sets come packaged in bamboo boxes, which elevates the whole situation. The fish is always super fresh.

  Order:
  Mini Maki Set (spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion, marinated tuna avocado)
  Add spicy mayo duhh

• Sushi Hatsune
  When I want super crazy rolls. Always order the smoked edamame with butter & salt. It tastes so similar to Nobu’s charred edamame (minus the Peruvian corn). I could order three of these alone for dinner.

Chinese

• Lin & Daughters-New to me this week but I already know it’ll be a staple. Everything tastes like it’s made with so much love.

  Pork chive dumplings, peanut noodles, & short rib wrapped in scallion thin pancake were all insanely flavorful & comforting. Their signature chicken noodle soup has officially dethroned Springbone as my sick-day order

Mexican

• Son del North-Favorite burritos (no rice). Love the chicken, but if I want a warm hug in burrito form, I’ll order the bean & cheese.

• Super Burrito-Chipotle-adjacent bowls but fresher imo. Love the carnitas. They also have their own version of a crunchwrap.

Sandwiches, Casual Lunch, Comfort

I spent Galentine’s with Summer Fridays baking cookies, sipping hot chocolate, & testing the sweetest new lip balm duo. I’ve been a longtime fan & swear by their lip balm for healing my perpetually dry lips so this was truly a pinch me moment.

The event was a collab with Dana Hasson, founder of Homemadeish—the tastiest (& arguably most aesthetically pleasing) cookie mix you’ve ever seen.

Between the scent of the Birthday Cake and Strawberry Soft Serve lip balms & dozens of cookies in the oven, the entire event felt like the dreamiest olfactory experience-the clouds of edible glitter that filled the room & twinkled in the sunlight was just the cherry on top.

You wouldn’t expect it, but perched above one of the busiest streets in SoHo lies an airy, art-filled oasis devoted to rest and restoration. If I’m being honest, the middle of SoHo (actually… all of SoHo) is a place I actively avoid most hours of the day, thanks to my easily triggered fight-or-flight nervous system. Broadway, in particular, feels like a glorified outdoor mall with crowds that still-standing malls can only dream of. Busy, loud, frenetic, and the last place I’d normally seek peace or inspiration.

That said, for downtown identifying gals like myself (Chelsea, frequently heading south), the location right off the Broadway/Lafayette station is genuinely convenient and very appreciated. Because while dedicating an entire day to self-care is lovely in theory, NYC girls are perpetually on the move: morning Pilates, a full apartment clean, an everything shower, a coffee meeting, work, three events, a birthday dinner, a call to mom, and somehow still time to watch Tell Me Lies. Time is a luxury. Self-care is a necessity. So where do you go when you want both, but don’t have all day? Enter Spencer’s - the incredibly chic spa all the coolest NYC girls go to.

Gab & I camped out across the street in Cure Thrift to stay warm, faces basically pressed to the window, watching for a line to form before making our move. We were seated at the horseshoe-shaped bar. (There’s also a small standing bar area & a tiny outdoor counter, which will be a hot-to-snag spot for summer evening sips & people-watching.)

Despite its hole-in-the-wall size, the design details were abundant: cedar-planked walls, a retro speaker, art by Frank Stella. Standouts from the elevated snacky bites menu were the deviled eggs topped with tiny star-shaped pastry & the ham with maple butter & mini pancakes*—genius, absolutely going into my future elevated girl-dinner rotation.
*Not trying to cause blini erasure, but these were much more of a fancy McGriddle situation with the maple butter.

2. Testing: out different workout studios thanks to ClassPass. I ran through my free trial in about two weeks & just signed up for the big-boy subscription before settling on an individual studio (still doing the price breakdown).

I’m extremely new to working out, so I’m really just testing the waters to see what I like & what feels fun & rewarding enough to stick with. I’m loooving reformer classes, but quickly realized that proper technique makes all the difference—for results & safety—so I’m mixing in mat Pilates & core-focused sculpt classes to build strength & confidence.

As a true beginner w/ social anxiety, body-image issues, & a hefty dose of SSRIs, I was so nervous for my first class (called my mom before & after). But just a few weeks later, I’m going to classes 5–6 days a week at mostly new studios, so I definitely have thoughts, tips, faves, & beaucoup de recs to share. If you have any recs for fab workout classes at non-ego-threatening studios, pls drop them.

3. TBD (to be delivered): Cute workout sets, of course! Because what better motivator is there, really, than the promise of new clothes—& even better, ones that match? I ordered from this really cute workout set brand, Marby. The contrast color combinations are impeccable & the silhouettes are interchangeable. I snagged a cherry/espresso tank top & a pink/espresso bow top, both of which pair perfectly with the matching espresso leggings. I also grabbed the espresso leggings w/ a contrast cherry waistband & a light pink wrap for warm-ups.

4. Tasting: Meadow Lane (finally!). No longer lines & shelves stocked with fresh chicken tenders, which I’m already regretting not getting more of. Gluten-free, crispy, tender—all the things—but the real wow is the dilly honey mustard sauce. Omfg.

I’ve also somehow developed a taste for peanut butter, which is worth documenting because if there are two pick-me foods I’ve historically detested in this life, it’s tuna (the tuna melt resurgence has been deeply trying for me) & peanut butter. Yet my cravings for these gd liquified legumes are now borderline insatiable. I’ve been eating spoonfuls of One Trick Pony’s PB daily. Yes, it really is as good as the gals say.

5. Wearing: my new-to-me vintage fur coat From Madison Ave Furs on 30th. Their selection of vintage furs is absolutely massive & completely overwhelmed me the first time I went in last year. This time, I arrived as a woman on a mission—armed with inspo pics & a very clear vision of the coat I was after (Dakota Johnson reference, obvi). The lovely Larry pulled two options that fit the vibe. I chose one & am now the proud owner of a fabulous 1970s mink (not a landfill in its near or far future, might I add). It is genuinely the warmest thing I’ve ever put on my body, & I’ve been having so much fun dressing it both up & down.

6. Adding to cart: Freda Salvador pony-hair leopard loafers, Guest in Residence moon boots (would have been very helpful this past weekend in NYC), & the recently restocked Guest in Residence wild rag in brown/pink—duhhh.

7. Sipping on: Sorate’s newest winter menu addition—an incredibly decadent, body-warming cup of matcha hot chocolate.

   

8. Watching: The Pitt season 2, Heated Rivalry again, The Housemaid in theaters (with a crispy Diet Coke & cheddar popcorn—so fun!), & currently binging Industry. I consider myself pretty quick when watching TV shows—I watch a lot of it, like a loooot. Though I couldn’t tell you the last time I saw any real “cinema,” I do consume TV in a way that makes it feel like I’ve lost an entire side of my family when the credits eventually roll.

   My binge behavior, combined with the fact that I used to act & break down scripts daily, means I can usually follow what’s going on & predict what’s coming next based on patterns. That said, Industry? Your girl is lost 99% of the time. It’s so dense with financial jargon that I’ve had to pause & break things down on the most childlike level—insider trading = bad, do bad thing = get fired. More often than not, I’m just floored by how incredible the actors are & how effortlessly they rattle off this foreign language of finance. Claps & snaps! Despite being deeply confused nearly all of the time, I cannot stop watching.

9. Reading: I just finished Local Woman Missing, which started off really strong & gave me flashbacks to that sacred day years ago of binge-reading Gone Girl. Then the plot dragged, the POV switched way too many times, & I found myself wondering if anything was actually happening at all. All suspense, no substance (okay, miss critic!). Still looking for a juicy psychological thriller to shock me out of my post–Heated Rivalry / The Long Game haze. Drop your recs, please.
